Troubleshooting

A share link no longer works

A shared link that stops working is usually doing exactly what the owner’s privacy controls asked it to do-use the current link and sharing status to restore the right access.

GoScript Advanced Wishlist WordPress Plugin for WooCommerce gives the list owner control over every shared URL. Each link is tied to a secure token and is valid only while the selected wishlist remains shared with that current token.

Do not rely on a link copied from an older message, bookmark, or browser history. Ask the wishlist owner to open the list and copy the URL currently shown in their account.

  1. Sign in as the list owner and open My Account → Wishlists.
  2. Choose the wishlist that was originally shared.
  3. Check whether the list currently shows a share link.
  4. Copy that currently displayed URL and open it in a private or signed-out browser window.
  5. Send the newly copied URL to visitors who need access.

Regenerating a link is a useful way to reset who can use it. When the owner generates a replacement, Advanced Wishlist saves a new token for the list and the previous token no longer resolves to a shared wishlist.

New secure tokenRegenerating creates a new random, URL-safe token for the selected wishlist.
Old link invalidatedThe previous URL stops matching the list as soon as the replacement token is saved.
Same wishlist, refreshed accessThe owner keeps the same shared list while deciding who receives the new link.
Privacy by designInvalidating older links prevents an outdated URL from continuing to expose the list.

3. Check whether sharing was disabled

Disabling sharing turns the wishlist private again. This removes public access for the current link, which is the right result when the customer no longer wants the list shared.

  • In the owner’s wishlist, confirm whether the current action is Enable sharing or Regenerate link.
  • If the list offers Enable sharing, it is currently private and has no active public URL.
  • Choose Enable sharing to create a new active link when the owner wants to share again.
  • Copy and test the newly generated link rather than trying an older URL.
  • Only the wishlist owner can manage sharing for their own list.

If the current, active link still fails to load the shared list, the issue is more likely to be the public page configuration than the link itself.

  • Confirm that the site has a published Shared Wishlist Page selected in Advanced Wishlist settings.
  • Confirm that the page includes [goscript_shared_wishlist] in its content.
  • Confirm that the Shared Wishlist URL Base does not conflict with another public WordPress path.
  • Save settings after changing the page or URL base, then test the current link again.
  • Review any Advanced Wishlist admin notice about a missing page or URL-base conflict.

Share with confidence and control

Link regeneration and disabling are not failures-they are the controls that make sharing feel safe for customers. Once the owner provides the current active URL, visitors can return to the shared product collection while the owner stays in charge of access.
