Set up a useful test environment
Start with an active GoScript Smart Cart Recommendations WordPress plugin license, an enabled Cart recommendation section, and WooCommerce Analytics available for history-based recommendations. Use a staging store or a controlled test account when possible, then test Cart combinations that reflect how customers actually shop your catalogue.
1. Begin with a strong Cart example
Choose one or more products with meaningful recent co-purchase history and add them to the Cart. Open the main Cart page and confirm that the recommendation section appears in your selected position, above or below the Cart.
- Confirm the section title matches the wording you chose.
- Check that product cards show the images, prices, and Add to Cart links you enabled.
- Verify that the configured desktop columns and scoped styling fit naturally into your current Cart.
- Make sure none of the suggested products are already in the Cart.
2. Check recommendation quality and eligibility
Smart Cart Recommendations combines qualifying co-purchase evidence across eligible Cart products, then removes candidates that do not meet the final display rules. A good test confirms the section feels commercially sensible for the products currently in the Cart.
Try more than one Cart combination. Different Cart contents can lead to different combined recommendation evidence-and that is precisely where the Cart-specific logic becomes useful.
3. Test the conditions you control
- Use a Cart above and below any configured minimum subtotal to verify the section appears only when intended.
- Add a product configured to suppress Cart recommendations and confirm the section is hidden for that Cart.
- Test a product using manually selected recommendations and confirm the selected products remain subject to availability and global-exclusion checks.
- Test a Cart with limited history-based matches to see the fallback behaviour you selected.
4. Confirm your Cart context
The main recommendation placement supports both classic WooCommerce Cart templates and the WooCommerce Cart Block. Test the Cart experience your store uses in the same theme and checkout flow your customers will see.
Smart Cart Recommendations intentionally stays focused on the main Cart. It does not add sections to the mini-cart, cart drawer, checkout, product pages, or after-purchase screens, so your testing can stay focused on one high-intent moment.
5. Refresh after meaningful changes
Recommendation output is cached for the configured duration. Saving Settings advances the cache version, and the plugin also provides a dedicated cache-clear action. After you change recommendation rules, exclusions, fallback behaviour, or product-level settings, refresh the relevant Cart journey before judging the result.
Testing changes in a deliberate loop-adjust, refresh, add products to the Cart, and review-helps you quickly arrive at a setup that suits your catalogue and customers.
6. Prepare to test reporting later
When you enable click tracking, valid interactions with displayed recommendations can build the local data behind clicks, attributed orders, conversion rate, and revenue reports. Configure the Cart experience first, then use the reporting guides to understand the click-to-purchase behaviour and the metrics it can create.
