Minimum Cart subtotal

Choose when Cart recommendations become part of the shopping journey by showing the section only once the Cart reaches a value that makes sense for your store.

Use Cart value to time the recommendation moment

The minimum Cart subtotal setting gives the GoScript Smart Cart Recommendations WordPress plugin a simple condition for showing the recommendation section. When the Cart reaches the subtotal amount you set, the plugin can evaluate the rest of your rules and display eligible suggestions.

This is useful when you want to reserve the Cart discovery moment for shoppers who have already built a more substantial purchase, while keeping smaller or early-stage Carts focused on their current items.

How the threshold works

Set the minimum Cart subtotal in Smart Cart Recommendations → Settings. For a Cart that meets the configured amount, Smart Cart Recommendations continues through its normal logic: Cart checks, global or manual candidates, eligibility, fallback, placement, and display options.

Cart reaches your thresholdThe plugin can continue evaluating whether a useful recommendation section should appear.
Cart remains below the thresholdThe recommendation section stays out of the way, leaving shoppers focused on the items they have already chosen.

The subtotal threshold does not change Cart prices, Cart contents, or the products that can qualify as suggestions. It simply controls whether the recommendation opportunity is available for that Cart.

Choose a value that supports your checkout strategy

There is no single right threshold for every catalogue. Start with a value that reflects the point at which an additional product suggestion is likely to feel useful in your customer journey.

  • Use a lower threshold when complementary products are relevant across most purchases.
  • Use a higher threshold when the Cart section should be reserved for larger or more considered orders.
  • Use no restrictive threshold when you want eligible recommendations available across the main Cart experience.
  • Review the setting alongside your average Cart value, product mix, and how your shoppers typically build an order.

The threshold works with every other display condition

Meeting the subtotal threshold is only the first check. The section can still remain hidden if recommendations are disabled, the Cart is empty, a Cart product suppresses recommendations, or no eligible candidates and fallback products are available.

When the threshold is met, the rest of your controls still apply normally. That includes placement, title, product count, display choices, matching rules, exclusions, manual recommendations, and final availability checks.

Test both sides of the line

  1. Set a test subtotal in Smart Cart Recommendations Settings and save the change.
  2. Build one Cart just below the threshold and confirm the recommendation section does not appear.
  3. Build another Cart at or above the threshold and confirm the section follows your usual Cart rules.
  4. Repeat with a realistic multi-product Cart to review the finished result alongside Cart totals and checkout actions.

Saving Settings clears the recommendation cache, so you can test each meaningful adjustment without waiting for the previous recommendation result to expire.
