Getting Started

First setup checklist

Turn your WooCommerce order history into a useful Cart discovery moment with a confident first configuration that fits the way your store sells.

Begin with a ready-to-work store

Before shaping your first Cart recommendation section, make sure the GoScript Smart Cart Recommendations WordPress plugin has an active trial or paid license and that WooCommerce Analytics is available. The plugin relies on WooCommerce reporting data to discover the historical co-purchase relationships that power global smart recommendations.

1. Choose where the Cart section belongs

Open Smart Cart Recommendations → Settings, then enable the recommendation section and choose whether it should appear above or below the main Cart. Start with the position that feels most natural in your customer’s route to checkout.

  • Set a clear section title, or keep the default You may also like.
  • Choose a product count that gives shoppers useful options without making the Cart feel crowded.
  • Keep the optional minimum Cart subtotal empty at first unless you have a clear reason to reserve suggestions for larger Carts.

2. Set a practical recommendation foundation

Choose an order-history window, the current WooCommerce order statuses that should count, and a minimum shared-order threshold that suits the amount of recent purchase history in your store. Smart Cart Recommendations combines co-purchase evidence from eligible products already in the shopper’s Cart.

For a first pass, use rules that are selective enough to reflect real buying patterns but broad enough to reveal the useful relationships already present in your order history.

3. Make the section feel native to your Cart

Use the display and styling controls to decide whether recommendation cards show images, prices, and Add to Cart links. You can set desktop columns, card spacing, borders, colours, and the section-title size without taking on a separate visual page builder.

Keep the Cart focusedShow the information shoppers need to discover an extra product without interrupting checkout.
Match your store’s rhythmUse the scoped styling controls to complement the theme your customers already recognise.

4. Apply your first safeguards

Review the global exclusions for products, categories, and tags that should never appear in Cart recommendations. Smart Cart Recommendations also removes products already in the Cart, duplicated products, unavailable products, hidden products, out-of-stock products, and non-purchasable products before display.

If a particular Cart product should never trigger the section, use its product-level Cart suppression setting. For strategic pairings or new products, you can later choose manual recommendations for an individual product.

5. Test a real Cart journey

  1. Add one or more products to a test Cart.
  2. Open the Cart and confirm that the recommendation section appears in the selected position.
  3. Check that suggested products are relevant, available, and not already in the Cart.
  4. Try a Cart below any configured subtotal threshold and a Cart containing a suppressed product, if applicable.
  5. Save settings or clear the recommendation cache after meaningful rule changes, then test again.

Testing a few realistic Cart combinations gives you a fast read on how your order history, fallbacks, and controls work together before shoppers see the finished experience.

Next steps

Once the essentials are in place, test the experience and explore the logic behind each Cart suggestion.
