How It Works

How Cart recommendations are chosen

See how the GoScript Smart Cart Recommendations WordPress plugin turns real Cart contents and purchase history into a focused discovery opportunity before checkout.

Built around the Cart shoppers are ready to check out

Smart Cart Recommendations is designed for the main WooCommerce Cart, where shoppers are already reviewing what they intend to buy. Each time the Cart is evaluated, the plugin starts with the products inside it, your current settings, and the product-level choices you have made.

That creates a deliberate recommendation path: useful historical evidence can guide suggestions, while your rules, exclusions, availability checks, and fallbacks keep the final section aligned with the store you want customers to discover.

From Cart contents to final suggestions

  1. The plugin normalises variation products to their parent products and checks whether Cart recommendations are enabled.
  2. It confirms the optional minimum Cart subtotal is met and that no product in the Cart is set to suppress the recommendation section.
  3. For products using global mode, it reads qualifying WooCommerce Analytics order history to find products purchased in the same past orders.
  4. For products using manual mode, it adds the merchant-selected recommendation list for that product.
  5. It combines the available smart and manual evidence, then removes products that do not qualify for display.
  6. If spaces remain and you have chosen a fallback, it can add qualifying best sellers or newest products.
  7. The final recommendation section appears above or below the main Cart using your selected content and styling options.

Real co-purchase history gives suggestions context

For eligible global-mode Cart products, Smart Cart Recommendations looks at the recent WooCommerce orders you have chosen to include. It finds products that appeared in those same qualifying orders, then ranks candidates using the strength of their shared-order evidence.

Store-specific evidenceSuggestions begin with the product relationships your own customers have created through real purchases.
Cart-specific relevanceThe products a shopper has already added help focus the next suggestions at a high-intent moment.

The next guides explain how shared orders are counted and how evidence from multiple Cart products is combined.

Your controls shape the final result

Order-history settings let you choose the history window, current order statuses, minimum shared-order evidence, and an optional category or tag relationship rule. You can also exclude products, categories, and tags globally, use manual product lists for specific products, or suppress the Cart section for a particular Cart product.

These controls help turn automatic logic into a practical merchandising tool-one that can adapt to strategic pairings, new items, restricted products, and the way your catalogue is organised.

Only eligible products make the final Cart section

Before the section is shown, Smart Cart Recommendations removes products already in the Cart, duplicates, unpublished products, hidden products, out-of-stock products, non-purchasable products, and products or taxonomy terms you have excluded.

Fallbacks keep discovery moving

Sometimes historical or manual candidates do not fill every available slot. If you enable a fallback, Smart Cart Recommendations can add qualifying best sellers or newest products after the smart and manual candidates have been evaluated. You can also choose no fallback when a more selective Cart experience is the right choice.
