WooCommerce / HPOS compatibility

Build smarter Related products on a reliable WooCommerce foundation-using the native storefront flow, WooCommerce Analytics data, and an HPOS-compatible order-data approach.

Built on the WooCommerce tools your store already uses

Smart Related Products works inside WooCommerce’s native Related products flow. It uses real WooCommerce purchase history to select better product relationships, while WooCommerce and your active theme continue to render the familiar Related products section and product cards.

That approach helps recommendations feel like a natural part of the storefront your customers already know, rather than introducing a second product-card system, carousel, or custom placement to maintain.

Platform requirements

For the most reliable start, confirm that your site meets the current minimum platform requirements:

  • WordPress 6.5 or later
  • PHP 7.4 or later
  • WooCommerce 8.2 or later
  • WooCommerce installed and active

Keeping WordPress, WooCommerce, and PHP current within your own maintenance plan gives Smart Related Products the solid base it needs for day-to-day recommendation and reporting work.

WooCommerce Analytics powers the data layer

Smart order-history recommendations and validated click tracking depend on WooCommerce Analytics being available. The plugin uses the wc_order_product_lookup and wc_order_stats lookup/reporting tables to aggregate co-purchase relationships efficiently.

Smart Related Products surfaces the Analytics and order-data status in Settings and on its own admin pages, so you can identify the foundation quickly. It does not fall back to an expensive scan of individual WooCommerce orders when the required reporting data is unavailable.

HPOS-compatible order-data direction

Smart Related Products declares compatibility with WooCommerce custom order tables (HPOS). Its co-purchase discovery relies on WooCommerce Analytics lookup tables rather than legacy order post/meta queries, helping the plugin stay aligned with WooCommerce’s modern order-data architecture.

The plugin does not discover product relationships by loading every order through wc_get_orders() or by scanning legacy order posts. Instead, it works from WooCommerce’s purpose-built reporting data for a focused, scalable recommendation foundation.

Storefront scope: native, classic Related products

The documented primary target is WooCommerce’s normal, classic Related products output. Smart Related Products filters the related-product IDs and preserves their calculated order; it does not replace your theme’s layout or create a separate recommendation interface.

A practical compatibility check

  1. Confirm WordPress, PHP, and WooCommerce meet the minimum versions.
  2. Open Smart Related Products → Settings and review the WooCommerce Analytics status.
  3. Confirm the required WooCommerce lookup/reporting data is available.
  4. Visit a classic product page and verify that your theme displays the normal Related products area.
  5. Use the product editor preview and Reports as your recommendation data develops.

With that foundation in place, you can configure matching rules, fallbacks, exclusions, and tracking with a much clearer view of what is powering each recommendation relationship.
