How watched-at and notification prices are set

Learn how GoScript Price Drop Alerts WordPress Plugin for WooCommerce records watched-at prices and creates clear, customer-ready notification targets.

Every watch begins with two meaningful prices

GoScript Price Drop Alerts for WooCommerce gives every customer watch a clear starting point and a clear goal. The watched-at price records what the exact item cost when the customer began watching. The notification price is the price at which that customer would like to hear from your store.

Those values make the experience easy to understand in My Account, useful in customer emails, and valuable in reports. They also ensure an alert represents a genuine price drop from the point where the customer showed interest.

How the watched-at price is captured

When a signed-in customer starts a watch, GoScript Price Drop Alerts WordPress Plugin for WooCommerce reads the current native active WooCommerce price for the exact item. That value becomes the watched-at baseline for the new watch.

For simple products, the baseline belongs to that product. For a variable product, it belongs to the exact selected variation through WooCommerce normal variation controls. The plugin does not use the parent product broad price range as the customer baseline.

  • The baseline is saved when the watch is created; it does not move later as product prices change.
  • The store currency at creation is saved with the watch.
  • A separate display value can be retained for shopper-facing presentation where WooCommerce tax or display rules change the shown amount.
  • The native WooCommerce active price remains the value used for alert eligibility.

How the first notification price is calculated

New watches start from the default reduction configured in Price Drop Alerts → Settings → Price Drop Rules. You can choose either a percentage reduction or a fixed reduction in your store currency.

  1. Choose Percentage when you want the same proportional reduction across products.
  2. Choose Fixed when you want to subtract the same currency amount from each watched-at price.
  3. Set the default value that matches your store promotions and customer expectations.
  4. Create a test watch to see the resulting Notify me at price exactly as your customer will see it.

For example, a 10% default reduction begins a watch at a target 10% below its watched-at price. A fixed reduction follows the same idea using your store currency amount instead.

How customers change Notify me at

Customers can visit My Account → Price Drops and edit the notification price for an active watch. The target must be greater than zero and lower than the price where watching started. This protects the meaning of a price-drop alert and avoids a target that the item had already reached when the watch began.

When a shopper saves a new target, the plugin updates the watch revision. That means any queued background work checks the newest customer choice instead of acting on a stale target.

Customers cannot edit a target when the watch is on a safe hold, such as a store-currency mismatch, or when price-drop notifications are paused. They can still see the watch and remove it if they no longer want it.

Native price versus displayed price

WooCommerce can display a price differently because of tax settings, display rules, or customer location. GoScript Price Drop Alerts keeps the customer-facing display information useful for My Account and emails, but it does not let display conversion decide alert eligibility.

The trigger remains simple and dependable: the exact item current native active WooCommerce price must reach the saved notification price or lower. This keeps the calculation consistent with WooCommerce product pricing while still giving customers understandable amounts in the interface.

What happens after the price is reached

When the live native price reaches a customer target and the exact item still qualifies, the plugin prepares a one-time alert. The saved baseline and target let the email and Recently Dropped history show what changed and how much the customer could save.

A successful notification completes that watch. If the customer wants to watch the item again in a later pricing cycle, they start a new watch with a fresh watched-at price and a new notification target.
