Price Drop Rules and attribution window

Set default customer price goals and a meaningful reporting period with GoScript Price Drop Alerts WordPress Plugin for WooCommerce.

Set a price goal customers can believe in

Price Drop Rules give every new watch a meaningful starting point. In Price Drop Alerts → Settings, choose how much lower a product’s price should be before a customer is alerted, then set how long a qualifying post-email purchase can be measured in reports.

GoScript Price Drop Alerts for WooCommerce keeps the two jobs distinct: the default watch goal shapes the customer’s starting notification price; the attribution window shapes how long an accepted email can be associated with a later, qualifying purchase.

Where to configure Price Drop Rules

Open Price Drop Alerts → Settings and find the Price Drop Rules section. It includes three controls:

  • Default Watch Goal
  • Default Reduction
  • Attribution Window (days)

Save your changes when the values fit your catalogue. The plugin validates these settings to keep them usable: the starting reduction must be positive, percentage reductions must stay below 100%, and the attribution period is kept between 1 and 90 days.

Percentage below current price

Choose Percentage below current price when you want a flexible target that scales with each product’s current native WooCommerce price. For example, a 10% default reduction starts a $100 watch with a target of $90 and a $40 watch with a target of $36.

This option is especially useful for mixed catalogues where product prices vary widely. The customer gets a consistent relative saving goal instead of the same monetary reduction on every item.

Use a realistic percentage: a modest target encourages more reachable price-drop opportunities, while a larger target may better suit premium products or more occasional sales events.

Fixed amount below current price

Choose Fixed amount below current price when the same store-currency reduction makes sense across the products you want customers to watch. For example, a fixed reduction of 10 starts a $100 watch at $90 and a $40 watch at $30.

This option can work well for a focused price band or a predictable promotional approach. It is less suitable when the catalogue includes very low-priced products, because the fixed amount must still leave a valid, positive target below the price where watching begins.

Default rules apply when a customer starts a new watch

The plugin calculates the initial target from the exact product or variation’s current native WooCommerce price at the moment the customer starts watching. It stores that watched-at price, target, and currency with the watch.

Changing the Default Watch Goal or Default Reduction affects new watches created after the change. It does not silently rewrite existing customer targets. That protects the promise already made to a shopper and lets each active watch continue with the price the customer originally chose or later edited.

Customers can refine the target in My Account

After a watch is created, the customer can update their Notify me at price from the Price Drops area in My Account. Their revised price must be above zero and below the price where watching started.

When a customer changes a target, the plugin treats it as a fresh version of that watch for delivery purposes. Any queued or retry-waiting alert for the old target is deferred, and the updated watch is evaluated against the new request. This keeps alerts aligned with the customer’s latest choice.

What the attribution window measures

The attribution window begins when WooCommerce accepts a Price Drop Alert email. It sets the period during which a later purchase can be included in Price Drop Alerts reporting when the registered customer buys the same exact product or variation and the order meets the plugin’s paid-order conditions.

A shorter window creates a tighter view of near-term response; a longer window gives customers more time to return and purchase. Choose a period that matches the typical decision cycle for your products, not one intended to claim that the email alone caused every sale.

The plugin’s reports reconcile paid-order changes and refunds, so the purchase and revenue figures remain grounded in the latest order data.

Choose a window that fits your store

  • Fast-moving or impulse products: a shorter window may give the clearest signal.
  • Considered purchases: a longer window may better reflect how customers research and return.
  • Seasonal or promotion-led products: align the window with the timeframe in which the offer and price change remain relevant.

There is no universal best number. Use the reporting period consistently long enough to learn from customer behaviour, then refine it as you see how your own customers respond.

A confident Price Drop Rules workflow

  1. Choose percentage or fixed reduction based on how your catalogue is priced.
  2. Set a positive default reduction that produces reachable targets.
  3. Pick an attribution window between 1 and 90 days that matches your buying cycle.
  4. Save the settings and test a new watch on a representative product.
  5. Review Price Drop reports over time, then refine the defaults when the data suggests a better customer opportunity.

With GoScript Price Drop Alerts WordPress Plugin for WooCommerce, your rules give shoppers a compelling starting target and give your store a dependable way to understand what happens after the email.
